Jazz Camp a Smashing Success!

Led by WHS music director Mark McCrady, University of Montana Jazz Director Rob Tapper, and Groovetrail founder Erica von Kleist, this year’s Whitefish Jazz Camp was a huge success! Over 45 talented local middle and high school students participated in a five-day intensive that focused on music theory, rhythm, jazz history, and good ol’ fashioned fun and jamming. Our students learned about everything New Orleans “2nd line” drum beats, to Latin Jazz greats such as Tito Puente and Michel Camilo, and nitty gritty music theory with trombonist Rob Tapper. The week of classes and rehearsals culminated in a stellar performance by both middle and high school groups, and the week closed with a day of singing and vocal masterclasses by Broadway talent Eric Michael Krop. Special thanks to the Crown of the Continent Guitar Foundation and the University of Montana for their support!
